The sky over your wedding day

Somewhere above your ceremony, the stars were already in place. A wedding star map draws that sky for your date, your time and your venue’s city, so you can keep the view over your day.

What goes on your map

You choose the details, and the map shows the real sky for them:

  • The date and time. Use the hour you said “I do,” or the evening of your first dance.
  • The place. Start typing a city and pick it from the list. The sky looks a little different from every city, so the place matters.
  • Your words. Add a title, your names and one short line of your own. Keep it simple, or make it a little funny.
  • A style. Choose how the stars, constellation lines, Moon and planets are drawn. You can also add a zodiac layer, if you like that layer.

Which moment should you pick?

There’s no wrong answer, but here are a few favorites:

  1. The ceremony. Use the start time on your invitation.
  2. The first dance or the toast. A good choice for an evening reception, when the real stars are out.
  3. The moment you got engaged. If it was at night, the sky from that evening makes a sweet companion piece.

If your ceremony was in the daytime, the map still works. Stars are drawn as if the sky were dark, so a daytime moment shows the Sun sitting among them. If you’d rather see a night sky, pick the hour of the reception.

Don’t know the time? Leave it blank. The map uses noon, local clock time (daylight saving included for that place and year), and tells you so.

Words that fit

A good caption is short. A few ideas:

  • “The night we became us”
  • “Same sky, new chapter”
  • “Under these stars, we said yes”
  • Your names and the date
  • A line from your vows

How the map is made

The map is drawn from astronomical calculations of the real sky for the date, time and place you give. The preview is computed in your browser, and nothing you enter into it is sent or stored. If you save or share an image, it includes the details you leave on it. If you order through Etsy, you submit your personalization there so the map can be made.

Ways to use it

  • A framed keepsake for your first home
  • A guest sign-in piece, where friends write around the edge
  • A gift from a bridesmaid, a parent or a best friend
  • A vow-renewal surprise, years later

Questions people ask

What if we don’t know the ceremony time? Leave the time blank. The map uses noon, local clock time, and says so. You can change it later if you find the time.

Which place should I choose, our venue or our hometown? Choose the place where you stood when you said “I do.” Your view depends on the date, time and location, including both latitude and longitude, so the venue’s city gives you the most faithful picture.

Can I use a date from the past or the future? Yes. The map works for any date between 1900 and 2100.

Is the zodiac layer required? No. It’s optional. It adds sign labels and symbols, and it doesn’t move any stars or planets.

What happens to my details? The preview runs in your browser, so nothing you type into it is sent or stored. If you order through Etsy, you submit your personalization there. If you save or share an image, it includes the details you leave on it.
